BBQ and Hash

Since 2014

About us

In April of 2014, my wife and I started a restaurant (not BBQ, yet) in Gaffney, SC.  One of our signature items was Hash.  Now in S.C. (especially our area), Hash is a staple and most BBQ establishments offer some variety of this.  I'll be first to warn anyone that just because someone can cook BBQ, doesn't necessarily mean that they can cook Hash, but most who can cook GREAT Hash can also smoke a pretty good pork butt!!

Anyway, we added BBQ to our menu about 6 months after opening and have grown exponentially ever since.  I've been learning how to smoke BBQ for over 35 years in some form or fashion, whether it was with family as a young man, working in restaurants as a teen and during college, as an adult who continued honing my craft at my home or now as a restaurant owner for over 9 years.  This is now,... JUST WHAT I DO.

Our Sauces and Rubs have been around for many years and we've been selling them locally for a few years now.  We now want to share them with everyone,... INCLUDING YOU!!  We know that our products are second to none and want you to experience what we have to offer!  When you taste our items, you will be able to tell the time and love that has gone into making each one of them!  Try for yourself!!!

What is hash? About 99.9% of the people in the United States have no idea. Quality hash is a delicious and extremely local item that is terribly hard to come by. It has been considered a seasonal thing for several years. We love eating it all year long and decided to put/keep it on our menu as it can be frozen and saved until needed.

A friend of mine told me that I should be able to cook BBQ since I could make hash as good as I do. I considered that statement, and I knew that there was only a handful of places to get hash; however, those places specialized in BBQ. On the other hand, not all BBQ joints served hash. I knew how to smoke BBQ but could not cook it on a large scale due to not having the proper equipment... I quickly fixed that issue and have not looked back since.

Boonjug's BBQ was an instant hit. It tastes better than the BBQ most of our customers were accustomed to eating. Part of the reason it tastes so good is the rub we use and the cooking process. Since Boonjug's beginning, we have grown exponentially each year!

The Boonjug's Rub that we use is a product that I have been working on for close to 12 years. I moved to California in June of 2008, and there were no products out there remotely close to what I had been using prior, so I decided to develop my own. I started with a basic blend of spices and kept adjusting it for a decade until I came up with what we now are using and offer to our customers around the world. I am extremely proud of this product and know that you will love it! Boonjug's BBQ Rub started solely as a BBQ product. However, our customers have fallen in love with this product and now put it on anything and everything such as eggs, hash browns, coleslaw, potato salad, grilled veggies, fish...everything! My wife loves putting it on popcorn.

Boonjug's Rub and BBQ Sauces are gluten-free with quality ingredients. Our rub is a full 16 oz.

One of the reasons people love our sauce is that it tastes different on different depending on what you put it on. If you put it on beef, you taste the sweetness. If you put it on chicken, it has a zesty flavor. When you put it on pork, you can savor the bourbon. Many customers tell me they serve it with any meat and also salmon. We kicked up the heat on it a little bit on our hot sauce, but not enough to mess with the flavor.

We use a certified facility with processes approved by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. Our labels and labeling process are also approved.

Our BBQ is 100% wood smoked

It's smoked over a variety of different wood types, depending on what cuts of meat we are smoking. Our smokers DO NOT have any gas burners or hookups for gas, nor do we use pellet smokers AGAIN it's 100% wood smoked. Although we understand that this process is "the hard way," we believe that it truly is "The RIGHT WAY.
